Shot Signature

Privacy policy

Shot Signature measures how you work the trigger and hold the rifle, from video recorded on your phone. This policy says what it records, where that goes, and what you control. In short: everything stays on your phone unless you choose to send it, and the app has no servers, accounts, adverts or tracking.

What the app records

Video and sound

While a take is recording, the phone's camera films the rifle from the side and its microphone records sound, to time each shot. The camera is aimed at the rifle, but whatever else is in the picture is recorded too, which can include your head, other shooters and their voices.

Measurements

From the video and sound, the app works out each shot's measurements: the trigger's movement, the rifle's steadiness, the timing of each phase and where the hole is on the card. These are kept as scorecards and history.

What you enter

Logs

With each take, the app keeps technical logs: the phone's model and iOS version, the camera's settings, its movement and temperature during the take, and any frames it dropped. They are used to check the measurements.

Where it is kept

On your phone only

Everything above is stored in the app's own folder on your phone. The app has no servers and no accounts, and sends nothing over the internet: no analytics, no crash reports, no adverts and no tracking.

When you choose to share

Nothing leaves the phone unless you send it. The app never sends anything by itself, in the background or otherwise. Sharing happens only when you tap Share and choose where the file goes, and each time you do, that choice is yours.

Share session data, in History, makes a file of one session's measurements, set-up and logs, and opens the share sheet so you choose where it goes, for example to send to a coach or to the developer for a problem to be looked at.

Share video, on a shot's trigger pull, makes a short video of that shot with its measurements drawn over it, and opens the share sheet. It is cropped to the rifle, and the shooter's head and the rifle's serial number are pixellated into the video itself. Shots where the marker can't be found, so the head can't be hidden, can't be exported.

Once sent, the file is in the hands of whoever you sent it to.

Another shooter's session: if the session is someone else's, for example a club member's on a shared phone, ask them before you send it.

Permissions

Camera and microphone

The camera films the rifle; the microphone times each shot. Both are used only while the camera is on in the app, and you can turn either off in iOS Settings › Shot Signature. Without the microphone, shots aren't timed.

Motion

The phone's motion sensors note any knock to the phone during a take, so the measurements can allow for it. They need no permission and record nothing else.

Your control

Deleting

Filming others

If other people may be in the picture, at a club for example, tell them you're recording and why, and ask before you film someone. Recordings made with Shot Signature are yours to look after.

Children

The app collects nothing from anyone, children included, beyond what is recorded and kept on the phone as described above. A young shooter's recordings should be made with a parent's or coach's knowledge.

Changes and contact

Changes

If the app ever starts to send anything off the phone, this policy will say so first, and the app will ask before it does.
